From wool to yarn
How wool travels from the pasture to yarn, with every major stage explained.
From primary wool processing to yarn production — the full production cycle on a single site in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

01About the company
Russian Wool Company grew up on the grounds of the Bor Wool Scouring Mill, an enterprise with a proud past that has been operating since 1953. Today we combine the experience of two mills: Bor, where wool has always been sorted and scoured, and the Troitsk Worsted Mill, which for over two centuries turned wool into combed tops and yarn.
02Products
We supply wool semi-finished products to textile mills, felt manufacturers and craftspeople — from industrial bale lots to small orders.

Sorted and scoured wool of any origin, pressed into bales.
Wool is a unique material: the crimped structure of its fibres traps air, keeping you warm in the cold and cool in the heat. That is why preserving the fibre structure during processing matters so much.
Our process includes opening and beating, soaking, scouring and thorough rinsing. We use mild detergent solutions that remove wool grease and dirt without damaging the fibre. The wool is then dried, held in clean-wool stores by industrial grade, and pressed by hydraulic presses into cloth-wrapped bales.
Scoured wool from Russian Wool Company is shipped to every region of Russia and exported to neighbouring and overseas markets.

Sliver straight from the card: raw material for combed tops, felting and nonwovens.
Sliver is a primary semi-finished product obtained by carding scoured wool. As the wool passes through carding machines, the fibres are opened, separated and formed into a continuous sliver.
Unlike combed tops, sliver still contains short fibres and residual vegetable matter. The fibres are not fully aligned and are oriented in different directions.
Sliver is used for further processing into combed tops, as well as in the production of felt, nonwovens, insulation, fillings and filters. It is also in demand among craftspeople, including for felting.

Pure-wool combed tops — a semi-finished product of the combing process and the raw material for worsted yarn.
Tops are a continuous sliver of natural wool fibres that have been cleaned of impurities and aligned in one direction.
During combing, short fibres and vegetable matter are removed, while the long fibres are straightened and laid parallel to one another.
In this form wool goes to worsted and spinning mills as the raw material for yarn. Tops are also popular with felt makers and hand spinners.
We produce tops from fine, medium and semi-coarse wool in natural shades — from white and light grey to the various colours of coloured wool.

Short fibre separated during combing — raw material for woollen spinning and felt.
Comb noils are the short fibres separated from the long ones during the combing stage of tops production. They are clean natural wool that has already been scoured and carded.
Noils are used in woollen-system spinning, in felt and non-woven production, in insulation and fillings, and in blends with other fibres.
Russian Wool Company supplies comb noils from fine, medium and semi-coarse wool.

03Working together

We purchase scoured and greasy wool of various origins and grades. We work with wool-growing farms and merchants across Russia.
We are interested in purchasing combed tops from Australia and South American countries, including wool with characteristics not found in Russian raw material.
We produce and supply pure-wool tops and Open Tops of various specifications for worsted mills and other textile manufacturers. We select products to match the customer’s technical requirements.
We offer regular deliveries of comb noils from fine, medium and semi-coarse wool for textile and nonwoven manufacturers.
We process the customer’s wool into combed tops. High-count worsted yarn from commission tops is produced by our partner Pekhorsky Textile.
We supply combed tops to our partner, Pekhorsky Textile LLC. The mill spins them into yarn for hand and machine knitting under two brands: Pekhorka and Pryazha iz Troitska (“Yarn from Troitsk”). Merino wool traditionally remains at the heart of its wide range of yarns in different blends and colours.
